Seeing Green
Spectrum has been recently refurbished, and is designed to achieve a 4 star Green Star (office design V3) and 4.5 star NABERS rating.
FKP recognises that Australians are aiming to work in environmentally responsible spaces, so through sustainable design we aim to create spaces that are comfortable, productive, avoid resource depletion and prevent environmental degradation throughout the life cycle of the building.
Based on the design specifications of the recent refurbishment, Spectrum was awarded the Australian Government Department of Innovation, Industry, Science and Research grant under Stream A of the Green Building Fund. The $500,000 grant is awarded over a two to three year period and is subject to annual reporting.
Energy saving initiatives at Spectrum include:
- New air conditioning with a Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) mechanical service system.
- T5 energy efficient lighting throughout the building.
- Installation of Dali lighting control system to ensure optimal light efficiency.
- Personnel Infra Red (PIR) detectors and time switches to control the use of lighting.
- Two new gas boiler units for efficient production of hot water for amenities.
- Building Management System (BMS) to monitor and control mechanical and hydraulic services for optimal efficiency.
- Replacement of Western front façade with high performance double glazing, assisting with lighting and reduction in mechanical service load.
- New wiring, metering and switchboards throughout.
- Reflective carpet including silver thread to maximise the building's reflectivity and use of light.
FKP has made a firm commitment to ‘green’ building with projects being delivered to the Green Star and NABERS rating schemes in each of the three eastern States.
